Faith is Greater than fear
Lessons about Joshua.
This book is the first book in Scripture that bears the name of a person.
Moses died at 120 years old. Joshua was Moses’ assistant for 40 years, wandering in the desert. He and Caleb are the only 2 from 1-2 million people who were both enslaved in Egypt and who are entering the Promised Land.
Joshua’s birthname was Hoshea, which means Salvation. His name was changed by Moses in Numbers 13
“…by this time Moses had changed Hoshea’s name to Joshua.” (Numbers 13:16b)
Joshua’s name was changed to YEHOSHUA which is transliterated to Joshua, and the Greek transliteration
is Jesus.
The book of Joshua is about claiming the promised land. It was about a new generation, and a new beginning to the Israelites. The region was called Canaan, which is the general territory of modern day Israel.
This book records approximately 25 years of history of the Israelites entering (chapters 1-5), conquering
(chapters 6-12) and dividing and settling the land (chapters 13-22) Chapters 23 and 24 are Joshua’s best and last farewell address. Read 23:11, and 24:15
